Sime~Gen in Paper, Kindle, Audiobook

A few years ago, Wildside Press came to Jean Lorrah and I asking for reprint rights to our backlist.  Wildside picked up the entire Sime~Gen series that Jean and I collaborate on and own together.

We had barely finished doing the formatting work on all 12 extant Sime~Gen novels than a fellow who knew Jean's work via a connection to her University job as a Professor of English came to us wanting game rights to her novels.  We didn't have exactly what he wanted, but pointed him to some of the unpublished Sime~Gen work posted online, and it hinted at what he wanted.

For the last 6 months or so, we've been working to create the Sime~Gen galactic civilization, and meanwhile the novels have begun to appear in audiobook from audible.com which is a handy format many of his game development  crew prefer -- because it's hands-and-eyes free and allows for multitasking.

Amazon's cross indexing is a mess, what with all the used copies for sale (cheap), so for reference, I'm going to list the Sime~Gen novels in publication order with links to the various formats of the new editions.

You don't need to read them before playing the game because the game will include whatever background you would want to play in this universe's interstellar era.

The novels were published in an order that has little to do with the chronology of history in the Sime~Gen universe.  For that chronology consult:

New Review Column Posted and Reprints Coming

Folks:

My Monthly Aspectarian Review column now has a list of books to be reviewed through November 2012.

The columns available to read on simegen.com now include July 2012, which starts with a strange and interesting book titled, Interview With A Jewish Vampire.

You'll find the index to all 2012 at:
http://www.simegen.com/reviews/rereadablebooks/2012/

REPRINTS IN PROGRESS:

Those of My Blood and its companion volume, Dreamspy, two Vampire Romance novels from St. Martin's Press in Hardcover had the collector's price escalating above $500 a copy until BenBella re-issued them in paperback.  But they sold out, so now Borgo Press has picked them up and will soon provide both paper and e-book editions at much more reasonable prices.

Here are the Amazon pages for these books,

And you will also find the new editions listed on our Amazon bookstore (though the new editions will be available everywhere and in almost all e-book formats sans DRM)

http://astore.amazon.com/simegen-20

And here is a comment from a reader who accidentally found the Vampire anthology Vampire's Dilemma on Amazon.

"I saw the book "Vampire's Dilemma" on Amazon.com and because it had your name on it I had to have it.  I first stumbled upon the Sime-Gen books at the library near my work, then lost them for a long time, and started gathering them (and Those of My Blood, etc.) again.  I really enjoy reading them.  I also recently (2006 I think) discovered fanfiction and it gave me a whole new outlook on life beyond just voraciously reading.  I'm not saying I was nearly as good as some of the fanfiction writers, but good enough that people read what I wrote.  What a feeling!  Some of the other fanfiction writers were better than the ones out there in the bookstores, in my opinion.  I still read them faithfully.  It kills me that they're so slow with their updates!  I may not be as good, but I am consistent!  I started out with anime fanfiction, but eventually graduated & now post on fictionpress.  I don't mean to go on and on, because except for posting, I've never really "joined" anything on any of the sites.  I was just so pleasantly surprised when I read the authors' notes in "Vampire's Dilemma" that they did the same things in pretty much the same ways as I did--and went on from there!  There are so many good stories (and a lot of not so good ones, but even those can draw you in--if the story's captivating enough, you can overlook the bad writing!)  So I just wanted to share that I think it's wonderful that you recognize fanfiction writing and on-line writing in general.  Looking forward to more!  Eve"

Buying a Knit Tit

Last time I mentioned buying a knit tit on Ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/360378520023

It arrived quickly. It was well made, attractive and much too big.  It stuck out over 3 inches from my chest.  My real one is less than 2 inches.  It was also firm.  I cut a slit in the bottom and pulled out over 80% of the stuffing. Then I sewed it back up again.

This knit tit is now a great prosthetic. It’s soft enough to wear during exercise.  Seriously, doing pushups with a silicone prosthetic feels weird and unbalanced. There’s that hard thing hitting the floor before the rest of me is down. The knit tit squishes down just like a real one, so exercising feels normal.

Even more importantly, the knit tit is soft enough to hug somebody without jarring them.
A silicone prosthetic feels like something hard between me and my huggee.

I decided I needed more so I could always have a clean one. I ordered them in different colors so I could tell which ones need washing.  Polly, the former midwife who knits them, wrote that she thought I had ordered different colors to go with my outfits.  I wear opaque bras, so that’s not an issue.  I told Polly, I may decide to take one out to show other women at cancer support meetings, but otherwise, only my husband and I will see them.

I also told Polly about the over stuffing. She said she usually makes them for classes on breast feeding, where the extra stuffing makes them easier to hold.  I told her I have enough stuffing from the one she already sent that I could stuff 3 more for my personal use.  She happily offered to send me 3 knit tits without stuffing and without the bottom sewn closed. She even gave me free shipping on the unstuffed ones.  She said to tell future prosthetic customers to mention that they want the stuffing packed separately from the knit tit, so they can decide how full they want it. So, if you’re ordering, be sure to mention you want the knit tit for a prosthetic.

I haven’t washed one yet, so I don’t know how long they take to dry, but I’m sure it’s not like a quick-dry sock.  I’ve been wearing it with a nursing pad between me and the knit tit.  So far I’ve only needed to wash the nursing pad.

June 2012 Updates

Vampire's Dilemma has picked up a couple of very nice reviews, and of course since there are 9 stories in this anthology, there's a lot more to say about it.  Which was your favorite story?

Being the editor, I couldn't "review" Vampire's Dilemma, but my Review Column Re-Readable Books is now posted through June 2012, with the books to be reviewed posted through November 1012 at:
http://www.simegen.com/reviews/rereadablebooks/2012/

As of June, 2012, it appears that both Jean Lorrah and I will be on the program at ChiCon7
http://www.chicon.org/  for details on the convention.  Fans are planning a Sime~Gen Party marking the release of the 12th Sime~Gen Volume in early 2012.  Keep current on plans by joining the Sime~Gen Group on Facebook.

New Sime~Gen Fanfic Coming to simegen.com

BORDERLANDS - Co-operative fanfic in the Sime~Gen Universe by a variety of (really marvelous, talented and skilled) writers is alive and well and about to GROW. I just gave the ftp keys to update the section simegen.com/sgfandom/fans/bev to Bev who has a backlog of items to post that need (of course) editing because they were created essentially "freehand" -- if you haven't discovered or kept up with Borderlands, now is the time to catch up because here comes more in this ongoing saga about a complex and unique town on, well, The Border.

 http://simegen.com/sgfandom/fans/bev/

That's the entry top page and from there you can cruise down into the episode list and catch up.

People from the Founding 400 who sponsored production of The Farris Channel have now been mailed and emailed notification that the book is available.

Several have turned up on the Sime~Gen Group on Facebook and noted that since their copies of the series novels had worn out, they bought full sets of the ebook versions.

That is one marvelous advantage to ebooks - you can reread them without wearing out the binding.

Progress Reports

Michael Spence has finished the recording of House of Zeor for audible.com audiobooks, and it is being compiled from the huge chapter files to a single file you can just listen to.

Here's what I wrote on the SIMEGEN Group on Facebook:

I've got the front matter, Chap 1 complete, most of Chap 2 which didn't upload totally, all of Chap 3 -- GOSHWOW. Spence has captured the characters, his reading is the best I've ever found in an Audiobook (not my usual venue, but I've listened to some to review them). You have no idea how BORING this book is after all these years and all these editions (well, Karen L. MacLeod does almost), but I listened to Spence with an idiotic grin on my face, pumping my fist in the air, and squelching shrieks of joy in order not to miss the next gorgeous WORDS which I could almost chant with him but didn't want to spoil a moment of it. You haven't read this book until you've heard this guy read it! It'll be a few weeks until they get it compiled and distributed. Save up to buy it because audiobooks are expensive, but that's for a reason!!! (a good one).

Meanwhile, Kaires is this weekend taking flyers for THE FARRIS CHANNEL and other Sime~Gen novels to a Mensa gathering. These are the flyers Zoe Farris made (in Australia!).

Kaires also updated the page where you can buy Sime~Gen Jewelry.

Sime~Gen Marketplace - Starred-Cross Jewelry

I have retrieved the rights to my Vampire novels, THOSE OF MY BLOOD and DREAMSPY, and made a deal with Borgo Press to reissue them as e-book and a new paper edition. That will be a few months in the making.

My next release will be the Vampire anthology (without any stories by me or Jean Lorrah) - VAMPIRE'S DILEMMA edited by Jacqueline Lichtenberg and Jean Lorrah, in ebook and paper from Wildside Press.

THE FARRIS CHANNEL - coming soon!

I have just been given the full cover of THE FARRIS CHANNEL, Sime~Gen Book 12.

It is now in the process of being made available Print On Demand -- it's a long book, so the trade paperback will be expensive.  It's printed on acid free paper with a very sturdy binding.  The e-book edition is likewise moving into the hopper and will appear within a few days, we expect.

You will find this available at all the best online outlets, with the e-book in your favorite format.
